Conservation Commission clears Pinnacle overlook, schedules Maple Street survey

NH NEWPORT — Newport Conservation Commission greenlights Pinnacle overlook clearing, schedules Maple Street cemetery walkabout. The Commission agreed to have forestry instructor Sam Nelson and his high school students clear five large trees and heavy brush from the Pinnacle overlook as part of coursework in forest best management practices. Commissioners Lawrence Schissel, Guenter Hubert, Paul Baird, Andrew Boutin, and Herbert Tellor Jr. also scheduled a January 16 walkabout of the Maple Street cemetery lot to assess water runoff and evaluate timber harvest implications following community concerns raised during public comment.
The Commission established two CDs at Sugar River Bank totaling $28,100, projected to generate approximately $720 in annual interest, and approved December minutes in a 5-0-0 vote.
