Commission backs $30,000 Meadow Road lot purchase for parking

Conservation Commission · Meeting of March 11, 2026

NH NEWPORT — Newport Conservation Commission unanimously backs $30,000 Meadow Road purchase for Community Center parking. The 20-space parking area will use a town easement in the right-of-way and meet Department of Environmental Services Shoreline Protection requirements, with the remaining unused portion of Lot 110-007 transferred to the commission as a conservation easement. Chair Lawrence Schissel reported the Raymond Holden deed remains under town attorney review while the commission examines potential revenue sources including application fees.

The commission discussed forest management at Pinnacle Overlook, with Herbert Tellor Jr. proposing a staged approach to cutting the regular view.
