Zoning Board of Adjustment · Meeting of August 19, 2026

NH NEWPORT — Newport Zoning Board approved a home-based electronics recycling business. The board voted 3-0 to grant Clayton Aldrich a special exception to operate the low-impact business at 60 Cheney Street, which sits in both Professional Business and General Residential zones. Aldrich, a stay-at-home dad, will take in electronics, sell some, and recycle remaining parts through a professional recycler.

The board determined the business meets all required criteria, including that it will not involve exterior storage, generate excessive noise or activity, or require off-street parking. The board also heard a variance request from Marybeth Palumbo for an accessibility ramp at 29 Myrtle Street to accommodate her physical disability; deliberations on that case remained incomplete.
