Zoning Board approves manufactured home variance for Alexander Avenue property
Zoning Board of Adjustment · Meeting of May 20, 2026
NH NEWPORT — Newport Zoning Board approves manufactured home variance. The board, led by Chairman Ben Nelson, voted 4 to 1 to grant Steven Dube, Jr. and Ashley Dube a variance under Article II Section 207.1 of the Zoning Ordinance to place a manufactured home on Alexander Avenue property. Voting members were Mary Knapp, Scott Meyers, Scott Stanton, and Jeff Kessler.
Board member Scott Stanton abstained on the hardship criterion and final vote, citing insufficient hardship justification. New Planning and Zoning Administrator Joseph Hoppock had advised against the variance, contending that manufactured homes require only a building permit; the board disagreed and directed staff to propose clearer ordinance language distinguishing manufactured homes from 1970s mobile home definitions.
