Newport Board Approves $35,000 for Loader Purchase Despite Voter Rejection
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of June 15, 2026
NH NEWPORT — Newport Board moves $35,000 for loader purchase despite voter rejection. Vice Chair Jeffrey Kessler's 3-2 motion advanced the $227,000 equipment replacement, funded through a $57,000 emissions grant, Highway Department surplus, and Water and Sewer funds alongside the municipal appropriation. Selectman James Burroughs and Chair Rachel Dilger opposed, citing concern about proceeding despite the failed warrant vote.
In a separate unanimous vote, the Board approved the fiscal year budget aligned with the default budget, eliminating the recreation specialist position and cutting welfare spending approximately 20 percent below current projections.
