Board approves $60,000 increase in substance abuse enforcement grant

NH NEWPORT — Newport secures $60,000 increase in substance abuse enforcement grant. The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved an expanded Northern Shield Grant from the New Hampshire Department of Safety, increasing the allocation from $150,000 to $210,000 for the 2026/2027 Substance Abuse Enforcement Program, with Chair Rachel Dilger expressing appreciation for collaborative efforts. The Board also unanimously approved a $50,000 amendment to the New Hampshire Homeland Security Grant to fund an Intelligence Liaison Officer at the Newport Police Department through August 31, 2028.

Fire Chief Steve Yannuzzi announced the promotion of Captain Copeland Miller to Deputy Fire Chief and welcomed three firefighters to full-time positions, marking the department's return to full staffing.
